Are you happy? If so, then you are doing the right thing. Is everything in your life exactly as you wanted or hoped it to be? If so, read no further, and congratulations! Very few people achieve that state of bliss in their lifetime. Most of us expend our energies anticipating the future when we will have time for life and happiness. Then, when we get to the future, we say to ourselves, Now we can truly enjoy the fruits of our labor. But life is something that is happening while we are living day to day.
Why wait to find happiness? You have the opportunity right now to correct those parts of your emotional self that need fixing. You can make the time right now to look at past hurts and no longer allow these things to rule your life. I work at this constantly. I have made a conscious choice to face myself and my past and really see all that I like and don't like about myself. It's not easy work. In the quiet of each night I make a list of my most ungenerous thoughts, vulnerabilities, and the demons that continually create the fear that keeps me from being who I am. I also acknowledge the successes I had during that day, those moments when there was a choice to be made and I chose to be kind or generous in thought, word, and deed.
We all have the opportunity to create our own state of bliss, but it requires a shift in thinking. Holding on to old hurts and programmed ideals creates blockages that prevent change and growth. Do you really desire happiness, peace of mind, and serenity? You can have it. Do you desire perfect relationships with your loved ones and creative, stimulating communication in your dealings with others? You can have it. But you have to surrender the old hurts and self-serving thinking. You must be generous with your thoughts and feelings. You must be completely and totally honest with yourself. You must fiercely examine all you like and dislike about who you are. I'm not talking about critiquing your height, weight, bone structure, or physical warts. It's looking at the way you think, examining your feelings and fears. It's facing the most vulnerable and fearful aspects of your person. This takes courage.
Doing this work can be agitating and at times humiliating and shameful. Do you lie or exaggerate? Do you experience jealousy? Do you ever wish others would fail? If so, you are not alone. Are you obsessed with others' behavior, are you judgmental, are you full of blame and self-pity? These are human traits, albeit ugly, that we all possess. Through a shift in your thinking you can monitor yourself more closely, and when the opportunity comes to take the high road or the low road, the little voice within all of us will remind you that it is in your own best interests to think your highest thoughts. Being the best person you can be affects not only you, but the entire world. We are powerful beings. Imagine if everyone in the world operated from this perspective. We would live in a utopian state. Idealistic? Yes. Possible? Yes. It starts with us. Each one of us has the power to impact change. If we are the best we can be and radiate goodwill and happiness, others will want what we have, and that starts a cycle of healing and goodwill. We were put here to be happy it is our job to manifest happiness. Be patient and enjoy the journey. You can change your life!
I believe we've been here before and we will be here again, but I also believe the most important life is the one we are living right now. We are each here for a reason, and that is to learn all we can about ourselves and our world. I for one want to make sure I make the most of this opportunity. In order to do this I realize it is necessary to give up playing games. I want to grow and be all that I can be. I want to use this lifetime as the gift that it is to find out who I am, why I am here, and how I can maximize this experience called life. I want to find peace of mind, joy, and serenity. Come with me on this year-long journey to become better, happier, satisfied content, and spiritually awakened. It will be a tremendous journey.
