Khalouat al-koubba, Sousse

Khalouat al-koubba, Sousse
Meaning the 'domed retreat', this chevron-ribbed dome is unique in North Africa. Little information exists about the building which ostensibly dates back to the 11th century. It is located just off the perfumers' souk in the heart of the medina and today is a small museum featuring traditional Tunisian wedding preparations, costumes and customs.

madina sousse
Tunis medina is famous for its doors which are often in a horseshoe shape featuring studded talismans to protect the occupier from the 'evil eye'. These take the form of the "Hand of Fatima" a stylized five fingered palm - five being an auspicious number in Islam, a fish - traditionally a Christian symbol and the Star of David, proof of our shared heritage
